It’s Responsible Dog Ownership Month!
Did you know that September is Responsible Dog Ownership month? Are you being a responsible dog mom or dad? Here are some questions to ask yourself to make sure you are being responsible and giving your pup their best life!
Are you committed long term?
Be sure you are aware of the financial, emotional, and time commitment owning a dog requires! A dog is a big part of your life, and you need to have the time, finances, and resources to care for them properly. Ask yourself if you can provide food, shelter, veterinary care, and more for the entirety of your dogs life.
Is your dog getting enough exercise?
Make sure you have the time to take your dog on multiple walks a day, or have a dog walker to do so. “Regular walks, hiking, playing fetch and swimming can keep your pet physically active and fit. But don’t forget about mental stimulation! Providing toys to play with, hiding treats, building obstacle courses and practicing new tricks all keep your dog or cat interested and engaged.” (1)
Do you know when it’s time to take your dog to the vet?
Make sure you have a vet you are able to contact in case of emergencies or questions. “An annual wellness exam provides the best opportunity for your veterinarian to perform a variety of health screens that can lead to early detection of diseases and to spot warning signs of serious illness. Yearly dental appointments may also be recommended to remove plaque and tartar buildup.” (1)
Is your dog trained?
“Well, practicing often and being consistent in your practices can make all the difference in the world in how well your dog responds to you.” (2) Be sure to take the time to train your pet, or enroll them in training classes if you cannot do it on your own. “A great dog trainer can help you not only with all the aspects of training skills, but also teach you how to build the bond with your dog and give you creative ways to make the learning process more enjoyable for both you and your dog.”(2)
Incorporating Licks formulas into your dog’d daily diet is a great way to be a responsible dog owner!
Add Licks Multi-Vitamin to your dog’s dinner to ensure they are getting a balanced diet full of essential vitamins and minerals!
If your dog doubles as your running partner, adding Licks Joint + Heart to their meals is a great way to provide joint support and keep their heart in good shape.
